WHAT IS DB(SIL)
What is dB(SIL)?
Specifically, it is the arithmetic mean of unweighted sound pressure levels at 100 Hz, 2000 Hz and 4000 Hz.
The Speech Interference Level (SIL) is an acoustical parameter calculated from sound pressure levels measured in octave bands. It is used to characterize a noise signal in the frequency range where the human ear has its highest sensitivity. It is intended to quantify the effectiveness of speech in the presence of noise.
How noticable is a reduction of 2 – 6 dB(SIL)?
Like our other senses, the sense of sound is unique to each individual. However, 2 – 6 dB(SIL) can be approximated to the following:
| dB(SIL) Reduction | -2 | -3 | -4 | -5 | -6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reduction in Sound Energy | 37% | 50% | 60% | 68% | 75% |
Our goal at Quiet Plane, Inc. is to obtain a minimum noise reduction of 2 dB(SIL) after the installation has been completed.
Terms & Conditions
To qualify for the refund, the following Terms and Conditions are applicable:
A Quiet Plane approved representative records readings at cruise altitude prior to the modification being accomplished. The full interior must be installed for these readings to be valid. All associated costs are the responsibility of the customer, and are not eligible for refund (these costs include: fuel, flight, interior installation / removal, etc.).
The flight test described above is repeated after the noise reduction package is installed (no other interior modifications are permissible). The noise reduction will be rounded to the nearest integer.
Measurements will be taken in accordance with ISO 5129-2001.
